A very happy birthday to James Renwick, Jr., architect of the Smallpox Hospital. Renwick was born on November 11, 1818 in New York City. Renwick, Jr.'s mother, Margaret Brevoort, was a socially prominent New Yorker, and his father, James Renwick, was an engineer, an architect, and a professor of philosophy at Columbia College. Renwick, Jr. passed away at the age of 76 in 1895 and is buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York.
